KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – The Gospel Fest Committee yesterday said it received with “a sense of shock and deep sadness” the news of the death of gospel recording artiste Christopher George, who died at Milton Cato Memorial Hospital earlier that day after a brief illness.

George was at the time of his death the Gospel Fest Zonal Coordinator for North Leeward, a position he held for over seven years.

“As Zonal Coordinator he was responsible for organising Gospel Fest activities and working with artistes in that area. George was very dedicated and served with a great deal of enthusiasm in a challenging area and contributed significantly to the festival,” the Committee in a statement.

George, who also head teacher at the Westwood Primary School, was an established gospel recording artiste and performer who produced three albums, including “Get Ready”.

He also recorded a number of Gospel Fest songs, including “Declare God’s Praises”, “Get Your Praise On”, “Give God The Glory” and “Island Praise”.

He was also the founder and leader of High Praise Ministries with his children following in his footsteps and performing as well, the Committee said.

“On the eve of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of SVG Gospel Fest, which scheduled to be staged in April this year, the members of the Committee mourn his loss and extend deepest sympathies to his wife and family and members of the North Leeward gospel community,” the statement further said.
