KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent — Plans are now being finalized for the grand opening of the SVG Gospel Fest 2012. The Christian festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, will officially begin this weekend with two shows on Saturday and Sunday at the Victoria Park.

Saturday night’s programme, dubbed “A Glorious Celebration”, will feature an evening of festival songs, drama and dance. Scheduled to appear will be gospel bands Voices of Victory, High Praise and New Life Ambassadors; dance groups KLT Dancers and Diadem dancers, along with singers Cecil Gordon, Donesia Domerge and Fidel Taylor.

One of the highlights of the evening will be a spectacular fireworks display in celebration of the ten years of the festival.

Addresses will come from chairman of the Gospel Fest Committee Fidel Taylor, Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs Maxwell Charles, who, along with Minister of Culture Cecil Mckie will officially declare the festival open.

Guest artiste for the show will be international gospel superstar DJ Nicholas out of Jamaica, who will be presenting some of his latest hits such as “Cut It Off”, “Testimony” and “Things Already Better”.

Sunday evening’s programme, dubbed “An Evening of Glorious Praise and Worship”, will feature worship teams from around the country with special guest artistes the Barbados Gospel Fest Singers.

Pastor Stephen Ollivierre of the Kingdom Life Tabernacle will also deliver a special message to the nation.

SVG Gospel Fest is a month-long festival of zonal and national gospel showcases across the coutnry with performances in music, song, dance, drama and sermonette that culminate in two nights of National Gospel Showcases.

Over the years the festival has expanded to include the Grenadine islands of Bequia, Union Island and Mayreau.

The 2012 festival is being held under the theme “A Glorious Celebration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ”.
