KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace on Tuesday congratulated Vincentian Earl “Ole George” Daniel on dancing for six continuous days to call attention to the high suicide rate among Inuit’s in northern Canada, and attempt to enter the Guinness World Records.

Daniel, a social worker and comedian, completed the feat in Inukjuak, where rape, incest, alcoholism, and suicides are incessant challenges.

“I wish to express congratulations to Ole George Daniel, who, this (Tuesday) morning at 5:40 — I was watching him myself — completed six days of dancing continuously on behalf of the Inuit people of northern Canada,” Eustace said at a press conference.

“They have one of the highest suicide rates in the world. Ole George Daniel has gone up there, he is working as a social worker up in the north and to bring attention to the plight of the Inuit people,” Eustace further said.

“… you can see, from the persons who were present this morning when he was coming to a conclusion and the statements made after, how great and appreciative the Inuit people were for his contribution. A number of persons who had lost loved one to suicide also spoke this morning to express their appreciation. Many of them in tears, actually,” he added.

Eustace noted that unlike Daniel’s previous four failed attempts to enter the Guinness World Records, the recording-keeping group sent representatives to monitor Daniel’s attempt.

“So I am expecting to hear that he is now in the Guinness Book of Records. But we really must congratulate this Vincentian,” Eustace said to applause, nothing that the mayor of Inukjuak said the community will feast in honour of Daniel.
