A New York Police Department officer on March 28 arrested Gonsalves in the lobby of his office building after the diplomat stepped between barriers outside of the building.

The cop, who handcuffed the envoy, reportedly injuring him in the process, later cited disorderly conduct.

The government here has said it is considering diplomatic and legal option for redress.
