KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, Feb. 28 — Residents of Arnos are more knowledgeable about new traffic measures that the police will be introducing in their community after a consultation with Commissioner of Police Keith Miller on Monday.
In a vote at the end of the session at Trotman’s Depot, most of the approximately 30 persons who attended expressed support for the new measures.
Miller informed the residents that the Traffic Department of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force will be placing a number of road signs in strategic locations to ease the congestion on mornings, which exists from Sergeant Jack’s Street to Rent and Drive, Arnos Vale.
“There are times, it can be very congested. Motorists rush across here trying to beat traffic. We believe if motorists travelling from the Windward side of the country continue on their normal route, traffic will be smoother,” Miller said.
The police chief also explained that residents within the immediate vicinity, who are usually affected, will benefit from the new control measures.
“We see chaos in the mornings. If we do not nip it in the bud, it will get worse,” said Miller, adding that some omnibus operators are bent on being reckless.
Miller further disclosed that a traffic sign will be erected at the bypass route opposite Ken Thomas’ residence at Arnos Vale, and new road markings will be placed in the vicinity of Rent and Drive. He said that another sign will be placed at the Villa/Fountain route, which exits near to the Scott’s residence. He said changes in road signs were also made on the surface of the road at the entrance to Super J at Arnos Vale.
The new sign that will be erected opposite Ken Thomas’ resident will state, “No Entry for Vehicle Traffic, Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.”
The sign that will be erected at the Villa/Fountain route, leading to the road near to the Scott’s residence, will have the same notice, Miller said, who urged the public to adhere to the law.
Superintendents, Kenneth John, head of the Traffic Department and Carlos Sampson, divisional commander of the South Central Division, also attended the consultation.
