Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Everard Gonsalves, is always being accused of things that he claims he is innocent of.

Why do people single him out to make such untrue accusations? Is he a magnet to false accusers and nasty people who lie about him? The question must be asked, “WHY?” Why is Gonsalves the recipient of these dastardly lies about his unblemished character?

People through the years have accused Gonsalves of being a Marxist. He has denied such many times.

Since the late 1960s, they have accused him of being a communist many times. He has denied such many times.

Hugh Sheerer in 1968 in Jamaica’s parliament likened him to a revolutionary. He denied that.

In 1970, Gonsalves led a political party in SVG called YULIMO, people said it was a Marxist organization. He denied that.

They have accused him of being spiteful and malicious. He has denied that also.

People have said he doesn’t love Vincentians. He denied that.

People have said that he is behind the firing of people from government jobs because they are not members of the ULP. He has denied that.

He is accused of being behind the firing of the Port Police. He denies that.

According to the DPP, at least five women have accused Gonsalves of some type of sexual assault. He denied that in all cases.

A policewoman claimed he raped her. Gonsalves, on Feb. 1, 2008, during a press conference, denied raping the woman police officer.

A Canadian human rights attorney claimed he sexually assaulted her. He denied that.

Gonsalves was accused of mismanaging the SVG economy. He denied that.

Gonsalves was accused of helping William Wise’s Millenium Bank by writing a letter which appeared on their website. He denied its content helped fool investors.

Whilst making a television programme, BBC journalists accused Gonsalves of receiving a suitcase of money. He denied that.

Gonsalves denied cancelling a meeting with a British lawyer after he learnt that two BBC journalists would also attend.

Gonsalves denied he knew that two of his brothers had withdrawn EC$1 million from the financially troubled Building & Loan Association.

Gonsalves denied any knowledge of a million dollar withdrawal from the Building & Loan Association by his mother (the same million referred to above)

Gonsalves was accused of saying, in reference to marijuana farmers, “We will hunt them down until they exist no more.” He denied to Parliament that he ever said such a thing.

In a WIKILEAKS document, “Gonsalves was quick to deny any military and intelligence agenda or component to ALBA”.

Gonsalves denied crime was a deciding factor in the closing of the Kingstown Medical College.

Communication Consultant in the Office of the Prime Minister, Elson Crick, stated that export of Vincentian bananas to the UK had been put on hold because of poor quality of the fruit.

Gonsalves denied that the United Kingdom suspended banana exports from the country.

It is said that since the Canadian lady lawyer accused him of sexual assault, Gonsalves is scared of travelling to Canada. He denies that.

Gonsalves denies the NIS has made investments in Four Seasons resort.

Gonsalves wrote a thank you speech to the CDB about money they loaned prior to the sale of NCB bank, but denied that he had to sell the bank.

Gonsalves has denied that he had a hand in the decision of the Speaker of the House in not providing MP Daniel Cummings with a special chair.

In 2011, Vincentian Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves denied reports that his government intends increasing the country’s Value Added Tax.

Mr Gonsalves has denied many things. Why do people accuse him of such things? Why?

It’s disgraceful. On the search engine that I am currently using, 20,400 sites appear if you search “Ralph Gonsalves, denies”.

I truly feel very sad about the badge that is being applied to him. I would like to offer an apology on behalf of all decent people who have mistakenly made accusations against the PM. I just hope that his feelings have not been hurt beyond endurance.

I must admit, I sometimes call him “Wun-Phatt-Pratt”, but gracefully, he has never denied that.

  1. He has also denied he held the trump card in the shut-down down of Bigger Bigs company. He is the “PM in DENIAL”.

  2. I truly don’t know what to say, but writer I agree with you; our esteemed PM is spotless, he is the most honest and decent citizen that I have ever meet. He is labeled as being vindictive – writer you forgot that accusation! Writer let us remind our esteemed PM that “time is longer than twine” and “what goes around come around” and as old people say “do good and good will follow you and you pickney them” oh and I forget this one “way nah catch you will hand down to you children, grand children, and there children” which means from one generation to generation. Have a bless day our esteem PM
