Members of The SVG National Rugby Club are preparing to introduce a new grass roots programme — “Get Into Rugby” — in to eight primary schools across St. Vincent.

The initiative, which is due to begin on Jan. 28, will see Grades 3 and 4 being introduced to tag rugby (non-contact) where students will learn the basic skills and knowledge of the new and upcoming sport of rugby

The St. Vincent and The Grenadines Rugby Union Football Club (SVG RUFC) with support from the International Rugby Board (IRB) and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and The Sports Department will deliver a series of one-hour sessions over six weeks during physical education classes.

At the end of the introduction week, on Feb. 1, all participating schools will get together to participate in a workshop and friendly competition at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Rugby Club is inviting Parents/guardians, teachers, friends and anyone interested in rugby or learning the sport to attend the final fun day.
