When we say our fish stocks are being depleted, we shouldn’t just blame foreign fishing boats as people like Peter Binose chronically do. Instead, we should recall the comic strip character Pogo’s famous statement: “We have met the enemy and he is us” (http://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/myl/Pogo2.jpg). Of course, no government would ever ban this destructive practice, claiming that like whale fishing in Bequia it is part of our Vinci culture. What a government! What a culture! Comments are closed.
