Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves says that his health is much better than it was last year June.

“I’m in good shape for a 71-year-old man,” he told a press conference in Kingstown on Tuesday, after receiving an annual health check-up in Cuba.

“I don’t have any particular problems of a health nature – knock wood — to worry about,” Gonsalves said as he rapped his knuckles on the desk.

Speaking on radio one day earlier, Gonsalves, who went to Cuba on official business last week, said that he took advantage of the opportunity to do a follow-up medical check.

He said that he does one annually in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

“And then, within a short period of time, I usually do it in Havana.

“The last time I did it there was June last year and they tell me my numbers are much better than June last year and I am feeling good,” said Gonsalves, who has been prime minister since March 2001.

Earlier this month, Gonsalves spent nine days away from work as he recuperated from injuries he sustained when he was knocked about inside his official vehicle as it swerved to avoid crashing into a vehicle that had stopped suddenly.
