Psychiatrist Dr. Dennis Navidad has joined the staff at the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre, the Ministry of Health said in a Nov. 9 press statement.

“This boosts the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment’s capacity to deliver top quality services to patients with mental health challenges,” the ministry said.

Navidad is a U.S.-trained psychiatrist with over 10 years of experience working in the field. He previously served as associate professor in behavioural sciences at the All Saints University College of Medicine.

He complements the current medical staff at the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre, which includes two other physicians, trained in the areas of psychology and psychiatry, as well as a clinical psychologist.

“The filling of the post of psychiatrist is the latest measure the government has taken to strengthen and improve the mental health services in this country.

“In December 2016, a renovated Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre was re-opened. The upgrades cost around EC$4.1 million dollars and were carried out under the modernisation of the Health Sector Project,” the ministry said.

  1. My problem is this, a senior member of staff of the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre [how long it has been called this can someone say] told me that 99% of all those at the home have been damaged in some way or other by using Cannabis. They told me Marijuana causes serious brain damage.

Substantial evidence from animal research and a growing number of studies in humans indicate that marijuana exposure during development can cause long-term or possibly permanent adverse changes in the brain.

I would like to tell us his view on Marijuana and the upcoming parlimentry bills.

Whilst he is available for comment it will be good if he can reexamine the the Yugge Farrow case and decide if the treatment she got from the Court in committing her to the home should have been done or not.

Of course if this mans opinions are under the control of the government we must simply accept he will not reply to these enquiries.

  2. I this really the original father Christmas? Navidad is the Spanish word meaning Christmas.

So Doctor Christmas has come early this year.
