A Middle Street vendor spent the weekend in jail awaiting sentence after pleading guilty to stealing from a Kingstown store two days in a row.

Joseph Griffith, 45, of Walvaroo, originally of Guyana, appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Friday, where he pleaded guilty to two theft charges.

Griffith was charged that on Oct. 9, at Kingstown, he stole 20 Gildan jerseys of various colours, value EC$339, the property of Jax Enterprises Ltd.

He was further charged that on Oct. 10, at Kingstown, he stole 17 large SVG corsages, value EC$170, 12 small SVG corsages, value EC$60, 12 SVG bandanas, value EC$60, four SVG caps, value EC$119.80, and three SVG hats, value EC$15, total value EC$424.80, the property of Jax Enterprises Ltd.

Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne remanded the defendant into custody until Monday, for sentencing.

  1. Thief Thief and more thieves. The man obviously has slippery hands. Society abhorso this kind of behavior. It offends the moral conscience of society. Put him away is the right thing to do.

    They need to send him straight back home to Guyana. How could you be selling and thiefing from another vendor? Yo aint fraid somebody go thief from you too? This same man try to sell me those same things last week in Chambers carpark. Thank God ah dont just buy things off the street so.

    Jax, Coreas, Massy and all the other stores around are beaten each day with shoplifters. Its disgusting n must be dealt with. Charge them n put them in jail still. Ah sound wicked but its how I feel about them when I know what businessess have to pay for their goods before they reach the shelves. Let justice prevail!!

    Agree with u florence woods. These people are heartless no morals. For example if i was to return to Vincy start a business am not careful same results i would be experoencing from shoplifters . These nasty badminded people looking for the easiest way of life. Having a business takes lots of sacrifices and hard work. He should be deported to his coutry. Like to know why the government tolerating these kind of actovities?
