A human skull, which a pathologist later concluded is that of an adult, was found at the Diamond Landfill around 9 a.m. Monday.

A well-placed law enforcement source told iWitness News that the skull was found during routine excavation in the regular operation of the landfill.

The source said that a pathologist concluded that based on the level of decomposition, the skull could have been at the landfill for about a month.

Police officers were dispatched to the landfill but did not unearth any other human remains.

An investigation has been launched.
