Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Keith Rowley, on Monday, announced that his country will restrict entry for 14 days beginning midnight Tuesday in response to COVID-19.

Exceptions will be made for nationals and non-nationals in certain circumstances — for example members of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).

Port-of-Spain will assist nationals stranded abroad to return home.

Cargo ships will be allowed to dock but crews restricted from disembarking.

All schools and places of learning will remain closed until April 20, Rowley said.

The prime minister appealed to private institutions to remain closed.

Residents are being advised to avoid gatherings of above 25 persons.

All bars are to remain closed and there will be no in-house dining at restaurants for the next 14 days.

Religious bodies have been asked to limit gatherings.

The Rowley administration will approach banks to defer loan payments and credit card interest payments for persons unable to meet their financial obligation as a result of this health crisis.

The Heritage and Stabilisation Fund is to be accessed to help sustain the economy and Rowley has announced the formation of a number of cabinet sub-committees, which will focus on education, finance and the social impact of COVID-19.
