Shawhiel Moore, 26, unemployed, of New Montrose, was on Friday sentenced to five years, and two (months for possession of unlawful firearm and three (rounds of ammunition.
The sentences will run concurrently.
Chief Magistrate, Rechanne Browne handed down the sentence at the Serious Offences Court after the defendant was found guilty at the end of the trial.
Moore was arrested and charged on June 30, 2019 when members of the Rapid Response Unit executed a search warrant at his home and found one 9mm pistol and three rounds of 9mm ammunition.
