The number of COVID-19 deaths in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has increased by one, now standing at 12, following the passing of a 69-year-old man on Tuesday.
The man died of COVID-19 while warded at the Argyle Isolation Facility.
The stated cause of death is COVID-19 pneumonia, the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) said on Wednesday.
Six new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 110 samples processed on Tuesday, resulting in a positivity rate of 5.5%.
One (1) additional new case was reported from samples processed on April.
The updated positivity rate for April 30 is 9.9%.
No new recoveries were noted over the reporting period.
Meanwhile, six new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 111 samples processed on Wednesday, resulting in a positivity rate of 5.4%.
One of the six new cases is an evacuee in an emergency shelter.
Positive cases identified in the emergency shelters now on lock down, have been transferred and isolated at a separate facility.
COVID-19 testing continues to be offered across all emergency shelters.
Eight new recoveries were noted over the reporting period and 142 cases are currently active.
Since March 2020, 1,895 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in SVG and 1,741 have recovered.
“The public is urged to continue to use masks, sanitize, physically distance and get vaccinated to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” NEMO said.
The increased deaths and positive cases in SVG are problematic but it appears lips are being zipped at the wrong time. These problems need daylight (literally and figuratively) to get healing.
The Government prevented Haitians from coming to SVG, but allowed Brazilians who had and still have much bigger problems than Haiti to party here. That cannot be right. Not only that for too long a period they allowed planes bring in people from Miami which is in far worse shape than Haiti. But then they have a Portuguese Governor, however moronic. Now we are having the levels of death and infection more in line with Brazil and Miami than Haiti. For the size of our population relative to Haiti’s we are having a far greater problem than Haiti ever did.
The attack on Haiti was malicious discrimination and out Government needs to apologize to Haiti and stop playing games.
Our medical people at the Health centers and hospitals need to be clear with us about how they treat Covid patients in the hospital. Are they administering vitamin D in mega doses? Are they treating with Dexamethasone? What about Ivermectin? Let us in on your protocols.
Also we need much grater push on vaccines.
