St. Vincent and the Grenadines has seen a significant fall in the COVID-19 positivity rate, according to data released today (Sunday).
The positive rate is the percentage of positive cases of the virus among the total number of samples collected for a particular day.
There had been a one-week backlog of results but this has been cleared, according to data released by the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) on Sunday.
Of the 353 samples collected on Oct. 9, there were 32 COVID-19 positive cases, for a positivity rate of 9.1%. NEMO said that 19 rapid antigen positives cases were reported from flu clinics on that day.
Last week Sunday, Oct. 10, eight new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 113 samples, resulting in a positivity of 7.1%. Thirteen rapid antigen positives cases were reported from flu clinics on that day.
Last Monday, Oct. 11, saw 50 new COVID-19 positive cases reported from 374 samples, resulting in a positivity of 13.4%. Thirty-nine rapid antigen positives cases were reported from flu clinics that day and four of the new cases were detected on entry screening from Canada, the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
Then, last Tuesday, Oct. 12 saw 22 new COVID-19 positive reported from 274 samples, resulting in a positivity of 8%. Thirty-one (31) rapid antigen positives cases were reported from flu clinics.
On Wednesday, Oct. 13, there were 37 new COVID-19 positive cases from 371 samples, resulting in a positivity of 10%. Thirty-seven rapid antigen positives cases were reported from flu clinics.
On Thursday, Oct. 14, there were 42 new COVID-19 positive from 240 samples, resulting in a positivity of 17.5%. Thirty-four rapid antigen positives cases were reported from flu clinics.
And, on Friday, Oct. 15, there were 14 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 145 samples, resulting in a positivity of 9.7%. Seventeen rapid antigen positives cases were reported from flu clinics.
This compares to the positivity rates in the previous seven days, as follows:
Oct. 8 — 20.4%
Oct. 7 — 14.6%
Oct. 6 — 18.4%
Oct. 5 — 20%
Oct. 4 — 19.1%
Oct. 3 — 17.3%
Oct. 2 – 20.1%
Meanwhile, NEMO further said today that there were seven patients admitted for COVID-19 at the Argyle Isolation Facility.
All are unvaccinated.
Thirty patients are admitted to the COVID-19 wards at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
Of these, 28 patients are unvaccinated, and two patients are partially vaccinated.
A further 13 new recoveries were recorded and 1,717 cases are currently active.
Since March 2020, SVG has recorded 4,623 cases of COVID-19 and 2,853 recoveries have been recorded.
NEMO said:
“In view of the confirmed presence of the Delta, Mu and Gamma variants in the community and the significant increase in the number of new infections, transmission, severe COVID-19 disease and deaths, strict enforcement and compliance with all protocols and recommendations by everyone is strongly recommended.
“The correct and consistent use of masks, avoidance of crowds, physical distancing, proper hand sanitising and immunisation with available vaccines have all been proven to significantly reduce the risk of being infected, getting sick and or dying from the COVID-19 virus.”
“SVG has seen a significant fall in it’s (Covid 19) positivity rate”. That is the premise of this article. I must remind all that these samples were NOT randomly collected. That is these tests sampling are skewed. So no extrapolation to the SVG population can be made. Too early to conclude anything.
Those figures, despite most being not vaccinated? Now, you are strengthening the anti-vaxxers. Now I’m beginning to question how you seemingly cherry pick your news reports. Well, this news is good news
depending on your point of view and favored narrative. Soon we’ll be able to move on to the next crisis.
The protected need to be protected from the unprotected by forcing the unprotected to protect themselves with the protection that does not protect the protected.
Then we can all be unprotected from covid together and protect ourselves from natural immunity (real protection).
Newspapers cannot be run by one person. (Just like a political party cannot be run by a single person’s whims.) People believe lies faster than they believe truth. (Remember treacherous rich boy Don Trump and the disaster he started by lying about winning the presidential election. Republicans are now so desperate and delusional they will lie, cheat and murder (mostly blacks) to attain power.) In SVG ignorance rules the day, too bad it will also cost innocent lives. Life is too short to be a jackass. Do the right thing get vaccinated and protect your family.
