A Dorsetshire Hill woman was up to 10 p.m. Thursday fighting for her life at Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, where she was taken after being shot in her community.

Reliable sources have identified the woman as Purlinea Greaves, who was reportedly shot in the head, around 8:30 p.m.

Residents of the community said they heard three loud explosions around the time that Greaves was shot.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit were dispatched to the scene in Dorsetshire Hill and Milton Cato Memorial Hospital as part of the investigation of the shooting.

One source familiar with Greaves’ condition said that doctors had listed her as “critical”.

Greaves has become the second woman in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to be rushed to hospital in less than a week after being injured in a violent attack.

On Saturday, Altavea Billingy, 28, of Chester Cottage, became the country’s seventh homicide victim this year.

She died at the MCMH around 11 p.m., about two hours after she was admitted with a stab wound to the abdomen, which she sustained in Kingstown.

Police have since charged her ex-boyfriend, Eldon Charles, a 35-year-old tradesman, of Cedars, with murder in connection with Billingy’s death.

Two of the eight homicides recorded in the country so far this year have resulted from shootings by police officers in the line of duty.
