The parents of a Gibson Corner man are trying to find answers as to how he sustained the injuries that claimed his life on a night that he had reportedly gone to hang out with friends.

Seldine John aka Keisha, of Yambou, told iWitness News, on Wednesday, that the dead man is her son, Ronald Deshong, 21, of Gibson Corner, who lived in the West Kingstown community with his father, Oswald Deshong.

John said that a woman who was in a taxi on her way home around 5 a.m. on Saturday said she saw Deshong lying at the side of the road near the Fundamental Bible Church in Gibson Corner.

John said the woman said that when she checked on Deshong — who she did not know — she realised he was injured and was struggling to breathe, apparently choking on his own blood.

She called the ambulance and Deshong was taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), located about a mile away, where he remained unconscious until his death on Monday.

John told iWitness News that doctors initially surmised that John might have been struck by a vehicle but later concluded that he had been struck in the head with an object.

The mother said police have launched an investigation into the incident and an autopsy will be conducted on her son’s body on Thursday.

She said that doctor’s told her that Deshong had suffered brain injury.

“Based on what they saw, they concluded that someone had attacked him,” John told iWitness News.

“The impact of what happened damaged his brain so he was unconscious the whole time.”

The mother said she was alerted to the development when Deshong’s father called her around 5:15 a.m. Saturday.

She said that her son’s father told her that two guys — reportedly friends with whom Deshong had been hanging out earlier that night — went to his home, saying they had found him injured at the side of the road.

John told iWitness News that she has since learnt that her son had been hanging out in Kingstown at the bar previously known as Biker Bar, near MCMH.

She said she did not know what time or with whom he left the bar, although he reportedly was there with friends.

The mother said that the woman who  found her son at the side of the road, visited him in hospital and met his father.

“She said the friends came while she was there at the roadside,” John told iWitness News.

John said she was present when her son died and she is left with many questions.

“I don’t know who the friends are that he was hanging out with at the bar. My focus was on him getting the treatment he needed. I did not even try to get any other information,” she said of her focus immediately after her son was found injured at the roadside.

“As a mother, it has to tear any mother apart knowing that they just lost their child like that. I really don’t know what to say. But all I can say, there is a God. It is well. It is well,” John told iWitness News.

  11. Much of this murder mayhem is as a result of the volume of GRAPHIC violence shown on channels like Netflix today. Folks are becoming increasingly desensitized to blood and gore.
The impact of Hollywood can not be dismissed.
Feed the young on a steady diet of graphic gratuitous violence and the result for the weak or depraved is sadistic and extreme antisocial behavior. Need I mention psychosis caused by marijuana for too many?
    Just saying.

  12. My sincere condolences to the family of this young man. I urge everyone to take life seriously. It is a gift from God. Only God can give life. How dare others take it away.
Young people and older ones too, remember the day of reckoning is coming. We all must give account for the things that we have done.
