The annual Shevern John North Windward T10 Softball cricket competition opened on Feb. 4 at the Owia Playing field.

Twenty teams — 6 in the female category and 14 in the male category — are participating in the competition.

During the march past presentation, Warriors 11 got the judges nod for the best dressed female team while Owia Strikers were adjudged  the best dressed male team.

There was also a ball-o-rama played among the participating teams, which was won by Owia Strikers.

John thanked the sponsors and the teams for participating and said the sport is an avenue to foster community spirit and togetherness and to steer the youth from crime and violence while at the same time engaging them in developing especially their personal and social skills.

The first matches of the competition were played last Saturday at the Owia Playing Field.

In an exciting encounter, Diamonds batted first and secured 82 for 7 from their 10 overs. Young Blazers were unsuccessful in their chase, scoring 42 for 9 from their 10 overs.

The second match saw Byera Linkers defeating Family and Friends of Owia. Family and Friends batted first and scored 43 for 9 from their 10 overs while Byera linkers knocked them out 44 for 2 at 5.4 overs.

On Sunday, in the female category of the competition, Passionate Girls of Fancy were defeated on their home field, scoring 74 for 3 from their 10 overs.

They played against Pappy Walter 11 of Owia who batted first and scored 169 for 2 from their 10 overs.

Later in the evening, Fancy Hard Knockers batted first and scored 141 for 6 from their 10 overs, beating Point Under Dogs who scored 118 for 7 from their 10 overs.

The competition continues this Saturday at the Fancy Playing Field and on Sunday at the Owia playing field.
