The St Vincent and the Grenadines Swimming Federation (SVGSF) national swim team have extended its medal-winning streak to 10) consecutive Carifta games over the last 12 years.

There were no Carifta games for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Carifta Aquatics Championships is the premier swimming championship in the Caribbean with 25 countries invited and over 400 of the best swimmers in the region

And, during the Carifta Aquatics Championships 2024 in The Bahamas from March 30 to April 2, Kione Deshong, swimming in the first year of the boys age 11 to 12 category, secured a bronze medal with his 3rd place finish in the 100-metre breaststroke in a personal best time of 1:22.79 seconds.

Deshong also placed fifth in each of the 50-metre breaststroke and 100-metre breaststroke events.

He set five new personal best times.

SVG had three other swimmers who qualified for finals events.

Hazen Dabriel, competing in the boys age 13 to 14 category and in his first Carifta championships, made the finals in 4 events and also set 4 personal best times.

Caghry Williams, swimming in his first year of the boys 11 to 12 age group, qualified for the finals in 3 events — the 50, 100 and 200-metre breaststroke.

Kennice Greene, swimming in the girls 15 to 17 age group qualified for two final events in the 50-metre Butterfly and 50-metre Freestyle. Greene finished in 4th the 50m free.

“Our girls in the age 15 to 17 age group made the finals in two relay events which were the 4 x 100-metre freestyle relay and the 4 x 50-metre freestyle relay,” the federation said in a press release.

“The SVGSF extends its congratulations to the swimmers and their coaches on the performances at Carifta.”
