A 44-year-old mechanic who has repeatedly appeared in court charged with assaulting his  girlfriend has been remanded in prison for two days, pending hearing of the latest assault charge.

Magistrate Kaywana Jacobs remanded Deno Walker, of Colonarie, when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, on Monday.

Walker was charged that on April 13 he assaulted Dennika Samuel, also of Colonarie, occasioning actual bodily harm.

Walker was on bail in connection with a charge slated to be heard on Thursday and one of the bail conditions was that he has no contact with Samuel.

When he appeared before the magistrate on Monday, Walker said that the complainant goes to his house “right through” and it’s as if she lives there.

He told the court that she is his girlfriend.

“You were to have no contact with the virtual complainant,” Jacobs told Walker.

Samuel has offered no evidence in assaulting charges against Walker that had been brought as a result of her complaints to police.

On her last court appearance, retired magistrate Bertie Pompey had warned Samuel that he would not accept her “no longer wish to proceed’ with an assault matter she brings to the court against the defendant.

He explained to her that although she filed the complaint against Walker, the court could hear the matter because the defendant is alleged to have committed the offence contrary to the laws of the state.

In August 2022, Pompey also voiced concern about people bringing matters before the court and withdrawing them before they were heard.
