“This is 40 years that the company has been supporting young people as they pursue their academic goals. This is certainly something to celebrate. We are all benefiting here both the recipients and the company. This programme allows Flow to stay true to our mantra: Care, Connect and Commit.”

For the first time, the programme is offering two one-time grants to students who are already in secondary school. Each one-off grant is valued at EC$1000.

This year, two full scholarships and two grants were extended to students from the Southern Grenadines who were impacted by Hurricane Beryl.

The Ministry of Education was instrumental in identifying the Grenadines students based on need and merit.

Senior Education Officer, Mavis Findlay-Joseph explained why partnerships such as the Flow Scholarship are important

“There are many students who have big dreams but need corporate assistance to make these dreams reality. Flow’s commitment to this annual venture means that each year students benefit from this much-needed help. Therefore, we join Flow in celebrating 40 years of this programme which serves as an invaluable investment in our youth,” the senior education officer said.

Flow St Vincent and the Grenadines Annual Scholarship Award is applicable for attendance at secondary school and the SVG Community College.

It was established with the help of the Commercial, Technical and Allied Workers’ Union (CTAWU) in 1984.

Acting General Secretary of CTAWU, Joseph Bonadie was present at the ceremony and reminisced on playing an integral role in the establishment of this scholarship 40 years ago.

“Cable and Wireless laid the foundation being the first company at that time to offer such a scholarship program and has since inspired many more institutions to this day,” Bonadie said.

More than 500 students across the country have benefitted from the programme which compliments the company’s other philanthropic initiatives, Flow said.

The company said it continues to work assiduously to ensure the restoration of service all our customers in the Grenadines.
