A post-mortem examination has concluded that the 11-year-old boy whose body was found hanging by the neck in Vermont on Aug. 20 died of hanging.

Police said on Tuesday that there was no evidence to suggest foul play in the death of the minor, Gifton Myle, of Francois, Vermont.

“… however, the RSVGPF remains committed to examining all aspects of the case to provide clarity and closure for the family and the public,” police said in an update on Facebook.

“We encourage anyone with additional information that may assist in this case to come forward,” police said, adding that people can give information by telephoning 999/911, (784) 457-1211, or (784) 456-1810.

“Our deepest condolences are extended to the family and loved ones of Gifton Myle during this difficult time,” the police statement said.

Myle was expected to commence secondary school this month, having graduated from Buccament Government School (BGS), located in Dubois, towards the end of the last school year.

Myle’s body was found hanging by the neck on the ground level of an incomplete house, where his great aunt, Nicolelyn Myle and her son lived on the first floor.

Gifton lived with his family a few hundred feet away from where his body was found.

On Aug. 20, Kleran Myle, 9, speaking to iWitness News in the presence of his mother, said he saw Gifton tying up a rope under the house.

Kleran, a Grade 4 student at BGS, said Gifton did not respond when he asked him what he was doing with the rope.

“So, I came up here and went to watch the TV,” he said, adding that he met Gifton dead when he went back downstairs.

He told iWitness News he did not see Gifton tie the rope around his neck.

However, the family later said that Gifton’s body was hanging from a “bag strap” and not a rope as Kleran had said.

Police also confirmed that the body was hanging from a bag strap and not a rope.
