Police are looking into a possible link between the death of a man whose body was found at Gibson Corner Wednesday morning and an armed robbery in Peruvian Vale Tuesday night.

Police are yet to identify the adult male whose body was found on the concrete roof of a private home that is often used as a lookout to Kingstown.

iWitness News was reliably informed that the body had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the back.

The body of the unidentified adult male was barefooted but dressed in long grey trousers and a black long-sleeve sweater.

It had a red hat slung around the neck and a red bandana tied around the neck.

The hair was in cornrows and iWitness News was reliably informed that the deceased had at least two teeth to the front of the mouth that appeared to have been damaged sometime before his death.

One source said that there were tyre marks at the scene, suggesting that the body might have been dropped there by a vehicle.

The discovery of the body came hours after police responded to an attempted robbery at Peruvian Vale in which a former police officer is said to have discharged all the rounds in his licensed firearm at three assailants.

Sources in the know tell iWitness News that the former police officer was among people liming at the roadside when three masked men, armed with at least one gun approached them.

During the interaction, the former police officer began discharging his firearm and the assailants fled the scene in a vehicle, leaving behind a firearm loaded with several rounds of ammunition.

Among the officers who responded to the scene at Gibson Corner was the acting Assistant Commissioner of Police responsible for crime-fighting, Trevor “Buju” Bailey, an experienced homicide investigator.

The death, if confirmed as a homicide, would be the fifth in the country since Friday, taking the count this year to 35.

The five deaths include that of 13-year-old Matthew Da Souza, whose body was found at Sion Hill Bay on Monday. An 11-year-old girl and other minors are in custody in connection with the teen’s death.
