The government has identified lands for the relocation of residents of Pole Yard, Arnos Vale, a community that sprang up outside the eastern fence of the decommissioned ET Joshua Airport over two decades ago.

The community was identified for relocation as the government prepares to build a new hospital at the site, where a ground-breaking ceremony was held on Oct. 26.

Speaking at that ceremony, Curtis King, MP for West St. George, where Pole Yard is located, said the government has held several consultations with our residents in the area.

He said the government did “a very important environmental and social impact study” which was done in 2018, which was updated in 2023.

“And these things were done to allow us to, one, create the awareness among our residents in this community of this project, and very importantly, to allow us to develop measures to limit the impact of whatever inconvenience we might have during the construction phase of this project and even as we speak, we are completing some of the works,” King said.

He said VINLEC and CWSA, the electricity and water providers, are involved in the realignment of their lines to ensure that nothing prevents the completion of the project.

“I want, however, to reassure those residents living in the informal settlement we refer to as Pole Yard to the northeast of us, we have given our commitment to their resettlement and relocation, and everyone in this country knows that once this government gives it commitment that is going to be fulfilled,” King said.

“Yes, it took us some time because it was difficult for us to identify an appropriate piece of land for their relocation, but thankfully, we have done so now and we are in an advanced stage of preparation.

“In fact, we are looking now at having in place the infrastructure so that we can facilitate the relocation of our citizen, our residents, from that community. I want to thank them for their patience, and ask them to exercise a little more patience as we get the job done.”

  1. Urlan Alexander says:

With General Elections around the corner “Mr. Eat ah Food” will promise that gold will fell from the sky.

  2. eat ah food, yo na ha fo wait 4 yrs again to get Yo pension eh ? remember yo bin say how dem WICKED ? it’s my opinion u wicked tooo , very shamefull

  3. So where is the land? Government need to stop putting so much people with social issues in one place. They exploit each other weaknesses and end up with gangs, thieves and all manner of evil. Look at Ottley Hall, Montrose, Campden Park, Diamond, Redemption Sharpes etc. Put 2 here another 2 there until all are relocated.

  4. I strongly suggest that the government not relocate all of Pole Yard at the very same place. Disperse them in different communities about SVG. If they are relocated to the same place, I believe they will carry the very bad practices and bad events currently taking place there.
