A 14-year-old student of the Girls High School died on Friday after a road accident in Villa.

The student, identified by her school as Reshonna Thompson, of Diamond, was the second road fatality in the country on what is regarded as a “black Friday” — when the 13th of the month falls on a Friday.

GHS said in a Facebook post that Thompson was involved in a vehicle accident with her aunt earlier on Friday.

“Tragically, Reshonna lost her life, and her aunt is currently in critical condition.”

First responders, including firefighters, had to help to free one of the accident victims, who was pinned inside a car after the collision.

The GHS said Thompson was a cherished member of Headmistress House, where she was instrumental in writing the house chants, bringing unity and spirit to her peers.

“She also served as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the school’s Student Council, known for her dedication and leadership.

“On behalf of the entire St. Vincent Girls’ High School community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Thompson family during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with her aunt, as well as her family and friends. We ask that you keep them in your prayers, especially as they navigate through this unimaginable loss,” the school said.

“Please join us in praying for healing and strength for her aunt, the grieving family, and the entire community affected by this devastating loss. May they find comfort and support in each other during this trying time.”

North Windward road fatality victim identified

Meanwhile, police have released some details on the fatal accident that claimed the life of a minibus conductor in North Windward Friday morning.

The Police Public Relations and Complaints Department said the victim is Olando Davis, 31, of Richland Park.

Davis died at the scene in Boat Bay, located between Point Village and Old Sandy Bay when HA-42, a green Toyota Hiace passenger van reportedly encountered mechanical difficulties, veered off the roadway, and went over an embankment, police said.

The van was from Owia to Georgetown.

“Additionally, two passengers, … an adult female and a minor, sustained injuries and were transported to the Modern Medical Hospital in Georgetown for medical attention,” police said.

iWitness News was reliably informed that the minivan plunged almost 300 feet down the embankment before it jammed against a coconut tree.

Davis’ body is said to have been found some 60 feet from when the minivan came to a stop.

Sources in the know have told iWitness News that the accident occurred sometime after 5 a.m.

The van was driven by Brandon Gonsalez, a 29-year-old mechanic, of Owia, and the two other passengers were his mother Sherry Sutherland-Adams and his sister, Shaunell Adams, of Owia, both of whom are hospitalised.

The driver was treated and discharged from the hospital.

The vehicle is said to have been extensively damaged.
