Police on Tuesday arrested two suspects in connection with the shooting near the Girls High School around 1:20 p.m.

A police press statement said that police collected “relevant exhibits” in connection with the case.

Well-placed sources told iWitness News that the police recovered at least two firearms and facemasks that the alleged assailants are suspected of having used in committing the crime.

The shooting occurred at Mahogany Square, near the Girls High School Bus Stop on Murray’s Road on the outskirts of the capital, Kingstown. 

Police did not disclose the identity of the victim, but iWitness News was reliably informed that he is Michael Richards aka Boxer, of Diamond.

Police said that officers who responded to reports of gunfire found a male who had sustained gunshot injuries. 

“The victim was transported to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition,” the police statement said. 

“Thanks to the prompt response and coordinated effort of the officers on duty, the suspects were apprehended and relevant exhibits were collected. The individuals taken into custody are cooperating with the police as investigations continue.”

The statement continued:

“The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force commends the officers involved for their professionalism and swift action in bringing the situation under control and ensuring public safety.

“This is an active investigation. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The RSVGPF continues to encourage members of the public to report any suspicious activity as we work together to maintain peace and security in our nation.”

The shooting attracted the attention of members of the public as ambulance staff took away the injured man.

Among the onlookers were students in uniform, who were in school despite the Easter vacation as they prepared for their school exit examinations.
