Victoria Park to get wheelchair access for Vincymas

People who use wheelchairs or have other mobility considerations as well as senior citizens, are expected to have easier access to Victoria Park for Vincymas 2025.

Rodney Small, CEO of the Carnival Development Corporation, said on Tuesday that there will be a designated gate for senior citizens to enter the venue.

“… you don’t have to line up with some of these young people who’s trying to get into the rush,” Small said at a press conference in Kingstown.

“So, we are catering for senior citizens and persons who need wheelchair access, because currently we do not have a wheelchair access here at Victoria Park, and we want to make sure that everybody can come,” Small said.

He also said that the bathrooms, food court, photo walls and general access points will be upgraded.

“That is something that you could look forward to,” said Small, who took over the leadership of the CDC in March.

He said the security plan for the festival is not limited to Victoria Park but will include the parts of Kingstown where there are activities.

“We have a full security plan that we’re going to put in place. We’re going to be mapping Kingstown, where we’re going to be posting a map where you can find bathrooms, where you can find the nearest taxi, where you can find the nearest food court, and all of these things,” Small said.

“And our new addition, we’re going to do a food and craft village in Kingstown, and we are collaborating with the Art in Action Association and the fashion association to give you a food village that would go for an entire week during Carnival.

“So, at any given time, you can go to the food village and get local food and local craft from our creatives here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” Small said.
