A security guard appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Friday, charged with murder in connection with the death of Shernard Gloster, 47, of Keartons, Barrouallie.
Gloster died after being shot in the chest during an altercation with an on-duty security guard from Guardsman SVG Ltd. at the headquarters of Kingstown Co-operative Credit Union, on Granby Street, Kingstown, police have said.
The guard, Wadie Simon, 60, of Brighton, was read a charge that on Wednesday, July 9, at Kingstown, with malice aforethought, he caused Gloster’s death by an unlawful act.
Simon, who did not have a lawyer, was not required to plead to the indictable charge, for which bail was not open to him at this stage.
Crown Counsel Devon Bute told the court that the investigator, Detective Constable Ria Smart of the Major Crime Unit, had indicated that they would need another month to complete her investigation.

The prosecutor said this would also give Simon time to retain a lawyer.
Chief Magistrate Colin John then asked Simon if he had a lawyer and the accused said that Counsel Grant Connell was representing him.
However, the chief magistrate told the accused that his office had contacted Connell’s chamber, which indicated that he had been retained only for Simon’s interview with police.
John remanded Simon to prison until July 21 for a status hearing.
On Wednesday, police said in a statement that preliminary investigations revealed that at approximately 12:35 p.m., Gloster visited the KCCU office to conduct business.
“During his visit, an altercation occurred between Gloster and an on-duty security guard, resulting in Gloster being fatally shot.”
A medical practitioner pronounced Gloster dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement Wednesday night, KCCU acknowledged that the shooting death occurred at its headquarters.
“We are profoundly saddened by the loss of life and extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident,” the credit union said.
It said that the “safety, dignity, and well-being of our members, staff, and the wider community remain our priorities. We have engaged counselling and support services for our employees and other affected persons”.
The statement noted that the police force is conducting investigations into the incident, adding that they were awaiting the outcome of these investigations.
“We understand and appreciate the public’s concern and solicit your forbearance at this time.”
The credit union said that it immediately suspended its operations after the shooitng. It later said on social media that its operation were slated to resume on Friday.

I hope the victim family sues the Guardman for compensation. They hired a incompetent trigger happy fool.
What is becoming to the people of SVG? What kind of heart they got.? How can someone killed another human in cold blood?
Let’s not rule out the covic vaccine shall we. If he took the vaccine, then it’s the demon in the vaccine motivate him to commit such crime.
This murder charge will not stick. The elements necessary for a murder conviction is a sent.
The DPP ought to know the murder. Charge will not hold up in court. Before this charge gets dismissed, the DPP should instruct the investigators to apply the appropriate charge.
Are you really that stupid thinking that a stupid vaccine can make u kill someone come are u really that dumb
You have no idea, do you. What the vaccine is doing in the blood of some people amaze me. The same way drugs affect people. They are all drugs.
You are correct. For murder you have to prove intent….. manslaughter is the proper charge under these circumstances. If someone heard the shooter say earlier that day that he was going to kill anyone that gets out of order, and then shot someone, that will be considered murder…..but under these circumstances, an argument, and shoots without being attacked is unnecessary use of excessive force.
Both security company and credit union liable in this scenario. I don’t see less than 3 million $ in compensation….between both companies.
Anointed one you should change your name/alias to the unannounced one for the crap that you are spewing.
