Guardsman St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ltd., on Friday, commented on the shooting death of a member of the Kingstown Co-operative Credit Union (KCCU), allegedly by one of its on-duty security guards two days earlier, saying the incident does not reflect the company’s standards.
The statement came hours after Wadie Simon, 60, of Brighton, appeared in court, charged that on Wednesday, July 9, at Kingstown, he murdered Shernard Gloster, 47, of Keartons, Barrouallie.
On Wednesday, police said in a statement that preliminary investigations revealed that at approximately 12:35 p.m., Gloster visited the KCCU office to conduct business.
“During his visit, an altercation occurred between Gloster and an on-duty security guard, resulting in Gloster being fatally shot.”

A medical practitioner pronounced Gloster dead at the scene.
In its statement, Guardsman said it was “aware of the formal charges against one of its employees, in relation to the unfortunate incident that occurred on July 9, 2025 at Kingstown Co-operative Credit Union Ltd.
“The Company is actively cooperating with the authorities. The incident stands in direct contravention to the Company’s core values, rigorous training programmes and clearly communicated policies,” the statement said.
Guardsman described the shooting death as an isolated occurrence that “does not reflect the standards Guardsman St. Vincent demands of its employees.

“The safety of the public and the integrity of our operations remain our top priorities. The Company’s focus now is on ensuring accountability, reinforcing our values internally, and continuing to serve all our stakeholders with the professionalism and care that they expect.
“We thank the public for their understanding and patience, and extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. No further comment will be made at this time while the legal process is ongoing,” the company said.
Simon appeared before Chief Magistrate Colin John at the Serious Offences Court in Kingstown.
He was not allowed to plead to the indictable charge, and bail was not open to him at that stage.
Simon, who did not have a lawyer, was remanded in custody until July 21 for a status hearing.

Just looking at this man, who in their right mind will give such weapon to him? ? Hope his family sue who so ever is responsible .
Do security firms in Vincy do a psychological evaluation of their prospective employees before giving them a firearm and does RSGPF do a psychological evaluation of potential firearm holders?
Only regular off-duty police officers should be allowed to carry arms when working as security guards.
I’m sure he regretted his actions.
Now that may cause him life in prison.
Does anyone knows his experience on the job, or is he a notable character?
C-Ben David Do you have a gun? I can lend your my license pistol.
Mr Bloch school children are saying the issuing of firearms is based on connections more than anything else. That’s why in a population of barely one hundred thousand, quite a few murders have been committed by licensed firearm holders. That’s probably not going to change anytime soon . If anything ,it’s being normalized.
One isolated incident does not disqualify all the other guards and Officers from carrying a firearm. The criminals will be happy to hear such thing. Don’t forget we’ve seen men with great minds who were qualified to carry firearm get into similar incidents. A friendly reminder: Senior Police Officer shot the wrong man up Heritage square, Prison Chief shot a prisoner off the Prison roof, the puppy that was supposed to solve crime was shot by friendly fire, what about the friendly fires, etc.
Well we anticipated this distancing from the shooter by his bosses, but the reports clearly seem to suggest that this employee was not ready to be in possession of a firearm; and what about the watered down apology to the family of the dead innocent peaceful man?
I hope that this employer is going to revisit all of his weapon carriers retool them retrain them, up the criteria for coverage and ensure monthly exercises into deescalation strategies and when it’s appropriate to draw a gun when dealing with the public.
Basically he’s a mess and guardsman should be sued they have d audacity to take out themselves like wat their employee theif the gun unknown to them these […] ppl sicks me to the core!
