District Stairs SVG Ltd., led by entrepreneur Marlon Bute, has once again demonstrated its commitment to rehabilitation and community development by donating a table saw valued at EC$2,500 to His Majesty’s Prison.

The saw was handed over by Zoe Porter, store manager of District Stairs SVG, to Senior Prison Officer Gareth Clarke, who accepted the donation on behalf of acting Superintendent of Prisons Dwayne Bailey and the inmates.

“This gesture is not just a contribution of equipment but a meaningful investment in the lives of the men entrusted to our care at the Prisons,” Clarke said.

He said rehabilitation is at the heart of the mission of the Prisons.

“We believe that by equipping inmates with practical skills, we are giving them a second chance at life, an opportunity to contribute positively to their families and our communities upon release.”

He said the table saw would be used in the carpentry and vocational training programmes, where inmates will learn craftsmanship, discipline, and the value of honest work.

Speaking on behalf of District Stairs SVG, Bute said the company consider it its duty to invest in the development of the country.

“This gesture is a way of showing our appreciation for our people, our love for our country, and our commitment to its progress.”

He said the company looks forward to working with the Prisons and other organisations “so that together we can build a true community approach to the development of St. Vincent and the Grenadines”.

District Stairs SVG is no stranger to supporting national institutions and rehabilitation programmes.

In December 2022, Bute donated a range of woodworking tools — including drills, a jigsaw, a belt sander, saw blades, and a 195-piece drill set — which continue to be used in carpentry workshops.

More recently, the company renovated the Public Relations Office of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force.
