In January, the Minister of Finance announced that money was allocated for repairs and refurbishment of the airports in the Grenadines — Bequia, Canouan and Union Island.
Three months remain in the year but we have yet to see any work being done on the JF Mitchell Airport in Bequia. There has been no further maintenance either.
The shutters for the main entrance to the terminal building remain closed, unable to open since June 2024. As a result, the check-in area is very hot.
The male washroom has been out of order for more than one year, while the tiles on the walls are falling, exposing the raw concrete, which is very unsightly.
The grass out on the side of the runway needs cutting; some of the offices are still leaking water when it rains. The control tower is in a deplorable state, with the floor falling in and not very safe for the traffic controllers. The parking lot needs resurfacing.
Not too long ago, high officials from the Mustique Company used the airport and one of them remarked that they never want to use the Bequia airport again.
This was embarrassing to the staff there.
The Minister of Tourism is boasting about record numbers but we all know that the Grenadines attracts most of the visitors to our country.
But you have one of the main ports of entry in such a neglected state for so long.
It’s these small things that we must get right if we truly want to brag about tourism.
You have people coming from St. Vincent every other month, taking pictures and measurements and yet nothing is being done.
It is ridiculous and frustrating. Please, to whom it may concern, the staff and the travelling public who use the JF Mitchell Airport need better treatment. It will not only benefit them but also tourism as a whole.

they also have promise well camillo have promise that the j.f mitchell will be fied once in parliment responding to a question from an ndp mp he said the the airport being mention would be returned to it’s former glory day’s unquote meaning night landing etc also his dad who is pm of the country and leader for the ulp had once mentoned also about upgrading the fire hall with a brand new fire truck with equipments that will be capable of cutting aircrafts in emergency situtions we are still waiting and watching
