The Zero Hunger Trust Fund (ZHTF) has launched its 10th-anniversary celebrations, marking a decade of national service dedicated to advancing food and nutrition security across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The media launch in Kingstown marks the first major event in the 10th-anniversary calendar of events and signals the start of a national month of engagement, storytelling, and public participation.

The initiative aims to deepen public understanding of the ZHTF’s work, strengthen partnerships and invite citizens, organisations and supporters to play an active role in shaping the next phase of the country’s journey toward reducing hunger to zero.

Director and CEO of ZHTF, Safiya Horne-Bique, reflected on the organisation’s journey and its growing national importance.

“The Zero Hunger Trust Fund was established with a clear and urgent mission: to ensure that no Vincentian is left behind in their ability to access safe, nutritious food,” she said.

“Ten years later, we are proud of the meaningful difference we have made in the lives of individuals, families, and communities across our nation. What began as a targeted intervention has grown into a trusted national institution and a catalyst for long-term resilience,” Horne-Bique said.

Noting that the anniversary represents both a moment of reflection and renewed commitment, she added:

“This milestone is not only about celebrating how far we have come, but also about strengthening our resolve for the future. We are deeply grateful to our partners, stakeholders, and the Vincentian public whose support has made this work possible. As we look ahead to the next decade, the Zero Hunger Trust Fund remains committed to building stronger systems, fostering more partnerships, and advancing innovative solutions to ensure lasting food and nutrition security for our country.”

The anniversary celebrations, which will take place throughout April 2026, are being observed under the theme “Ten Years of Impact – Visioning for the Next Decade” and the slogan “10 Years. Impact Built to Last”.

This milestone reflects both a celebration of measurable progress and a national call to action to strengthen sustainable systems that will secure food and nutrition for future generations.

As part of its anniversary celebrations, the ZHTF will also propose recognising April 6 as Zero Hunger Day, creating an annual national observance to raise awareness and inspire collective action.

Other celebrations include: National Essay and Art Competition (launching April 1), Volunteerism & “Giving Back” Week (April 5 – 11), National Thanksgiving and Reflection Service (April 26), and the Zero Hunger Gala and Awards (April 30).

Established on April 6, 2016, through an Act of Parliament, the ZHTF has evolved into the country’s leading mechanism for strengthening food access, reducing vulnerability, and building resilience among households and communities.

Over the past decade, the ZHTF has expanded its reach and relevance, moving beyond emergency support to become a strategic platform for social protection, partnership-building and community-driven development.

Its work has been especially critical during periods of national crisis — including the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 volcanic eruptions, and Hurricane Beryl in 2024 — ensuring that vulnerable Vincentians maintain access to nutritious food and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
