Police in St. Vincent and the Grenadines have launched a homicide investigation into the death of a 63-year-old Redemption Sharpes man, who was found unresponsive at China Town, Kingstown, on Saturday.

iWitness News was reliably informed that the man, Bertram Wright, died of multiple blunt force trauma to the head and body, suggesting that he had been beaten.

Wright had reportedly attended the awards ceremony of the Criminal Investigations Department at the Kingstown Central Market hours before he was found dead.

Sources have told iWitness News that Wright had been seen at the event in the company of some men who frequently socialise under a store gallery in the city but had left before the award ceremony ended.

The death raises questions about safety and security in Kingstown, as Wright was discovered unconscious in the heart of the city, right across the street from police headquarters.

Wright had made headlines multiple times for various crimes, including in June 2019, when he was jailed for 12 months after he examined his then common-law wife’s vagina in a public restroom, then beat her after accusing her of being intimate with another man.

The killing brought the homicide count in St. Vincent and the Grenadines this year to six.
