Police said on Tuesday that Redemption Sharpes resident Norman Seymour was still warded at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in Kingstown, having sustained cutlass wounds to both hands.

It is alleged that the chopping incident was the result of a domestic dispute.

It is understood that one of the chop wounds was so deep that one of Seymour’s hands was almost severed.

The wounds were allegedly inflicted by Seymour’s 16-year-old stepson, Tyrik Malcolm, also of Redemption Sharpes.

Malcolm appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday, charged that on March 22, 2026, at Redemption Sharpes, he unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous bodily harm to Norman Seymour of the same address with intent so to do.

Malcolm pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Inspector of police Renrick Cato, informed the court that Seymour has been at the Male Surgical Ward since the day he was chopped.

Regarding bail, the prosecution did not object but asked  the court to require suitable surety.

Cato said the prosecution’s concern was that both the defendant and the virtual complainant live in the same house.

Malcolm was granted EC$10,000 bail with one surety. He was also ordered to report to the Central Police Station on Mondays until the matter is disposed of.

The matter was adjourned to April 30 and transferred to the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court.
