A Layou man who was on bail for two attempted murder charges and was further released on Tuesday, two days after breaching his curfew, was among two residents of the Central Leeward town who were shot and killed in Stoney Ground, Kingstown, around 4:20 p.m. on Friday.
The man, Enrique John aka Shoubu, 29, was also a defendant in the case in which five people were slapped with multiple charges over the robbery of the credit union in South Rivers in July 2024.
The other man killed has been identified as Raheem Guy, 22, who sources have described as one of John’s close associates.
John has made news headlines on multiple occasions for various charges, including in 2017, when he and fellow Layou residents Dennis Prescott and Sherwin Miller were booked on offences related to the alleged rape of a girl who was older than 13 years but not under the age of 15.
iWitness News is not aware of the status or outcome of that case.
Then, last month, John was granted bail on a charge that he attempted to murder fellow townsman Tilon Patterson, 27, in Layou on Nov. 2, 2025.
Both John and Patterson were shot on Nov. 2, 2025, while travelling along the public road in the Central Leeward town.
At the time, iWitness News, citing sources, reported that the two men appeared to have been shot during a shootout by unknown assailants.
On Feb. 24, 2026, police charged John with attempted murder in connection with the November 2025 shooting in which he and Patterson were shot.
John appeared before the Serious Offences Court, where he was granted bail of EC$50,000 with one surety.
He was ordered to have no contact with Patterson and to report to the Layou Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
His bail conditions also included a curfew from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
John was brought before the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday on a charge of breaching a court order by being at an entertainment event after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The prosecution asked that John’s bail be revoked.
However, a witness testified to the court that John was at the function past 8:30 p.m. because police in the area had stopped the witness on their way to pick up John.
As a result of this testimony, the court released John on the same bail conditions, about 72 hours before he would be shot and killed.
John, along with Lemar Isaacs aka Chak, 25, unemployed, of McKies Hill; Esroy Jeffers, a 30-year-old painter of Layou and Sharome Dopwell, of Paul’s Avenue, Erasto DaSilva, a 35-year-old bartender, of Canouan and Rakiesha Joseph aka Bim Bim, 28, unemployed, of Layou, are awaiting trial on various charges, including attempted murder in connection with the robbery of the GECCU office in South Rivers on July 17, 2024.
The deaths in Kingstown on Friday have prompted fears that the violence that resulted in four deaths in Layou in six weeks in 2023 and several people shot and injured since, continues.
Before the killings in 2023, Layou had not registered a homicide in five years.

No person charged with attempted murder and breaking curfew should have ever been out on bail of $50,000. The justice system needs to be revamped. All bail for murder or attempted murder should be 1 million and up. This was it makes it harder for them to come out and re- offend. In this case, it could have saved his life. Vigilante justice will continue to prevail if the justice system continues to fail the citizens of SVG.
