The crimes of Largo Height thief who struck one store in Kingstown twice in a month were uncovered after a speaker was found to be missing during a stock count.

The man, Alex Alexander, 31, later approached the manager of the store, Courts SVG Ltd., saying he had also stolen another item previously and wanted to pay for it.

Alexander appeared before Senior Magistrate Tamikka McKenzie at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to charges that:

  • on June 6, in Kingstown, he entered Courts SVG Ltd. and stole one black LG X Boom speaker valued at $358.63, the property of Courts SVG Ltd; and,
  • on June 30, he entered Courts SVG Ltd. in Kingstown and stole one grey and black Radio Shack speaker, valued at $169, the property of Courts SVG Ltd.

The facts, presented by the prosecutor, Corporal of Police 817 Stapleton, are that on June 9, about 10:15 a.m., during stock taking, it was observed that a Black LG X Boom Speaker was missing from the store.

As a result, the Branch Manager of Courts SVG Ltd, Ossana Boyea, requested the CCTV footage and an internal investigation was also carried out.

The CCTV footage showed a male, dressed in a red long-sleeved t-shirt, grey long jeans and a hat, removing the item without paying for it.

Then, on July 1, about 3 p.m., Alexander approached Boyea at her workplace and informed her that he had stolen an item and wanted to pay for it.

Boyea contacted the police and PC 1072 Primus responded to the report and carried out investigations.

Primus had a conversation with Boyea  and a search warrant was executed at Alexander’s home, during which police found a grey and black Radio Shack speaker box.

Alexander told the police he had stolen the speaker box from Courts.

For the Radio Shack speaker, McKenzie ordered that Alexander pay compensation of EC$169 forthwith or spend three months in prison.

He paid the amount.

She also sentenced him to nine months’ imprisonment, suspended for 21 months.

For the other item, the magistrate sentenced Alexander to three months’ imprisonment. She also ordered him to pay compensation of EC$358. 63 by June 15, 2027 or spend seven months in prison.

In March 2021, Alexander, whose convictions are mainly theft and burglary, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, having entered the home of a fellow villager and stealing items valued over EC$10, 790.
