Defending champions, Xpert Computer Centre Bustas, continued their dominance of the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) Ladies Basketball Championship when they defeated Celebrity 68 – 53 on Saturday at the Old Montrose Hard Court.
At halftime, Xpert Computer Centre Bustas ace player, Gailene Gordon, got into foul trouble with 4 fouls and had to sit out for most of the second half.
The team, led by Anella Samuel and veteran player, Kenlyn Pamella Clouden, rose to the occasion and was able to maintain their narrow lead.
With just over 4 minutes left in the game, and with Xpert Computer Centre Bustas with a one point lead (50 – 49), Xpert Computer Centre Bustas’ coach called a timeout to revise strategy.
When play restarted, Xpert Computer Centre Bustas applied suffocating defence on Celebrity, outscoring their rivals 18 to 4 for the remaining period.
As a result of their defence strategy, Xpert Computer Centre Bustas outscored Celebrity, 40 to 29, in the second half.
