Two Vincentian media practitioners were among persons from across the region to win prizes at the Jennifer Jones Barbados/OECS Media Health Awards in Grenada on the weekend.
Editor and Chief Executive Officer of Searchlight newspaper, Clare Keizer, received the award for Best Coverage on Autism.
Junior Jarvis, who is senior reporter at the newspaper, received a Special Award for Health Coverage.
Keizer’s article was about her nephew, Shaka Bowman, who travelled to South Africa with his mother in 2010, for the FIFA World Cup on a prize trip sponsored by Digicel.
The newspaper said that Jarvis submitted an article depicting a family’s financial troubles after the main income earner died of prostate cancer.
The family of late media practitioner, Jennifer Jones, who died on March 3, 2009 introduced the media awards competition to honour the work and contributions made by her in the area of health journalism while assisting in promoting health and health related media coverage.
