The Stephanie Browne Primary School, represented by pupils Anjalie John and Shadaya Sam, are the winners of the 5th annual Spelling Bee Competition hosted by the Union Island Lions Club.

The Stephanie Browne Primary School won the Mr. Jean Marc Challenge Trophy while each pupil received a 7-inch tablet and other gifts. The Mary Hutchinson Primary School had to settle for second place, while the Mayreau Government and the Canouan Government School took the third and fourth spots, respectively.

The most outstanding spellers of this year’s competition, Anjalie John of the Stephanie Browne Primary School, Jeaniel Cayenne of the Mayreau Government, and Omari James of the Mary Hutchinson Primary, all received trophies and gifts. The other participants all received complimentary gifts.

The Union Island Lions Club is one of three Lions Clubs and 2 Leo Clubs spearheading voluntary community service projects throughout the country. The annual spelling bee competition and a catamaran cruise form part of their annual signature project and fundraiser.

The competition was held on Sunday at the learning resource center in Ashton, Union Island.
