Special Olympics, St. Vincent & the Grenadines (SOSVG) are in the advanced stages of planning the 2013 National Games, to be held Nov. 8 and 9 at Victoria Park, 4.30 p.m. and 9 a.m., respectively, with His Excellency, Sir Frederick Ballantyne, as the Patron of the Games.
The two-day event commences with The Law Enforcement Torch Run from Rabacca, Georgetown at 9 a.m. and followed by the Opening Ceremony at Victoria, 4.30 p.m.
The opening ceremony will include brief remarks from the Governor General, representative from Special Olympics Caribbean, Minister of Sports Cecil McKie and our official sponsors; Bank of St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Digicel St. Vincent Limited.
There will also be entertainment from local artistes and the School for Children with Special Needs, Kingstown.
Two persons who have dedicated their life to the growth of Special Olympics SVG will be honoured during that ceremony, and then two football matches will be played.
The football match will be kicked off by the Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph E. Gonsalves.
The second day’s event will commence with different sporting events such as track & field and Bocce.
There will also be a Unified Bocce game where persons without intellectual disabilities will play alongside persons with intellectual disabilities.
