Vincentian Tahesha Verdine Warner contributed 17 rebounds as Shaw University women’s basketball team handed the previously unbeaten Virginia State their first lost. Shaw fended off a late charge by the Virginia State, taking the 69-64 win in front of a packed house at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium Monday night.

The 6 foot 4 inches Warner led the Lady Bears in rebounding. The Lady Bears held a 28-15 margin in rebounding.

Kaula Jacks led the Bears with 18 points, and Warner had 11 rebounds and Brooks 10 to lead Shaw, while Micah Jacks and Mitchell had five assists apiece to pace the Lady Bears.

Jessica Lyons had 16 points to lead Virginia State, with Prynces Tate-Dublin and Deal each finishing with 12. Alexandria Massado had nine rebounds and three assists to lead VSU.

Warner game stats are as follows: 11 rebounds, 7 points and two block shots.

Warner is one of three Vincentian females playing basketball in the USA on basketball scholarship.

The other females are Sheldeen Joseph in Chicago and Shanique Mariam Frederick in Nebraska.
