Police Monday afternoon confirmed that a female teacher has been taken into custody as part of their investigation into “a matter”.

A senior police officer told I-witness News that the teacher was taken into custody sometime after lunch on Monday, but said he was not in a position to comment further.

A well-placed source told I-Witness News that the civil servant is a teacher at a secondary school in Kingstown and has been very critical of the government on the social networking website Facebook.

Her arrest is said to be in connection with comments she may have made regarding a senior government official, the source said.

No charges had been laid against the teacher as of 2:00 p.m. Monday the source said.

I-Witness News understands that the investigation is being conducted by the Major Crime Unit.
