Thursday, May 14th was a special day for persons employed by the CIBC.
Dubbed “Employee Appreciation Day,” the CIBC group worldwide said thanks to their employees for their contribution, dedication and professional service.
Showing appreciation for all employees did not begin and end on that day, but rather it was just one of the days chosen to highlight the contributions made and continue to be made by the employees.
In St Vincent, employees were presented with a carnation flower, thank you card and a token on their arrival at work on that day.Later that day, several awards were presented and milestone achievements highlighted and celebrated. The day ended with a social activity in the form of a get-together featuring refreshments, music and fellowship.
The real issue is that the Garifuna in SVG are leaderless, lost souls. Unlike their brethren in Dominica, they don’t have a place — a reserve — that they collectively own and control in perpetuity nor have they ever made such a claim from either the British or Vincentian governments for all the land that was stolen from them by the rapacious colonists in the 18th century.
Nor have our so-called progressive community activists, Black or Red Power activists, radicals, Carib politicians, etc. ever tried to fight for Garifuna rights.
It seems that I-man, C. ben-David, is the only person in the world shouting about this continual down-pressing of our founding people.
