The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) has confirmed that an earthquake occurred this morning (Thursday) and was felt by persons in St. Vincent.

NEMO cited the Seismic Research Centre of the University of the West Indies in Trinidad as saying that at 7:01 a.m., an earthquake was generated 125 kilometres north east of Barbados at a depth of 10km.

It measured 5.7 on the magnitude scale.

The earthquake was reported felt in various places on St Vincent, in Barbados and in St Lucia.

There was no threat of a tsunami from this tremor, NEMO said, adding that it has not received any report of damage from the earthquake.
