St. Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded its second road fatality in less than a week.
Aleike Gibson, a 23-year-old, conductor of Belmont died on Sunday after an accident at the Belmont Public Road.
Police said that reports are that Gibson fell from motor vehicle T 8920, owned by Lesline Davis and driven by Dwight Davis, both of Belmont.
Gibson’s dead follows that of Michael “Bully” Edwards, 50, whose body was found on the concrete road to Spring, Lowmans Hill last Wednesday.
Edwards’ relatives told iWitness News that he had a history of alcoholism and when drunk, would often sleep at the side of the road where his body was found.
Station Sergeant Henry Providence of the Traffic Branch told iWitness News at the scene that the police were treating the man’s death as a road fatality. Providence said that it appears that a vehicle struck and dragged the man, resulting in his death.
Gibson’s death brings to three the number of road fatalities in SVG this year.
