A 13-year-old, form 2 student of Bishop’s College Kingstown won the Junior Soca Monarch competition on her first try on Tuesday.

Teshika “Short T” Andrews defeated last year’s winner, M’riah “Young Siah” Robertson of West St. George Secondary, who had also won on her first attempt last year.

“I feel really good. Ah wah cry, but not in front the crowd though,” Short T told reporter as her fans celebrated in front of the stage.

“I wanted to sing from very small and I felt that at this age, I should try and see how it would work out,” she said.

Short T’s father, Gareth “24” Andrews wrote her song, “Cut Them off”

She said she plans to continue singing in the competition.
