St. Vincent and the Grenadines, on Monday, recorded its second COVID-19 death of a person fully vaccinated against the virus.
The latest victim is a 68-year-old woman with pre-existing conditions, who died at home on Monday after a respiratory illness with features typical of COVID-19.
A postmortem test for COVID-19 was positive, confirming that the cause of death was a COVID-19 pneumonia, the National Emergency Management Organisation said on Tuesday.
The woman’s death brings to 85 the total number of people in SVG to have died of COVID-19.
The death follows that of a 67-year-old woman, who succumbed to COVID-19 pneumonia on Jan. 5, after a one-week illness.
That first patient had tested positive for COVID-19 admission to hospital and had preexisting non-communicable diseases.
She was fully vaccinated during the period April to July, 2021, NEMO said.
