Eldon Charles, a 35-year-old tradesman, of Cedars, has been remanded in custody until April 17, for a preliminary inquiry into a charge that he murdered his ex-girlfriend Altavea Billingy, in Kingstown, last Saturday.

Charles was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared before Chief Magistrate, Rechanne Browne at the Serious Offences Court, on Tuesday.

Billingy, a 28-year-old caretaker, of Chester Cottage, died at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital around 11:30 p.m., where she was being treated for a stab wound sustained about two hours earlier in the city.

Billingy, a mother of two boys, aged 6 and 10, lost her belongings when fire destroyed the two-bedroom house in which she and her younger son lived with a family friend in New Montrose on Jan. 20.

She had moved to the Kingstown suburbs one week earlier, reportedly because of an unwanted relationship in her rural community.

Reports are that police took Billingy to hospital and arrested Charles when officers met them engaged in an altercation on Grenville Street, Kingstown.

  1. Her sir name is Billingy not Charles. Billingy the mother of two boys and not Charles… painful to read that you have her his surname after he murdered her in cold blood. Pls rectify that Kenton.
