Blue Marlins Swim Club emerged victorious at the recently held Gallagher Invitational Swimming Championship at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre.
After four days of exciting competition, Blue Marlins Swim Club captured the title of swim champions. The competition kicked off on Thursday and culminated on Sunday.
Blue Marlins Swim Club entered 32 swimmers, aged 5 to 16 years. The club was secured eight swim titles.
Kmar Rose won the 8 and under girls title with Saj Caesar winning the boys 8 and under title. Caghry Williams and Belle Adams also won the individual titles in the 9 to 10 girls and boys category.
The 11 to 12 female and male categories were won by Tayeah St. Hilaire and Jadon Hamilton, with the 13 to 14 titles taken by Hazen DaBriel and Zaryah Samuel.
Jadon Hamilton and Tayeah St.Hillaire both won the sprint challenge in the respective categories.
Two national records were also broken. Caghry Williams broke the 50m backstroke record while Belle Adams broke the 200m breaststroke record.
A number of other swimmers performed exceptionally well, earning a number of medals and doing personal best times.
Overall, the team secured 160 medals: 76 gold, 52 silver, and 32 bronze medals. Collectively the team amassed a total of 1635.5 points to emerge overall champion.
Tayeah St. Hilaire, one of the individual title winners gained a place on the national team for the 2023 Carifta games.
This win came on the heels of the Blue Marlins Gala awards ceremony in January at Calliaqua Town Hall.
At this awards ceremony, all the swimmers were awarded certificates and individual trophies in the various strokes.
“This is part of the Blue Marlins objective of motivating their swimmers, and in due course producing top class athletes,” the club said.
“Coaches Tamarah St. Hillaire, Rickydene Alexander, Josel Williams and Alyssa Davis all worked hard, playing a pivotal role in the overall success of the team.
St. Hillaire the swimmers performed greatly and made both their coaches and parents proud.
She also said that this win came as a result of training hard and the swimmers pushing themselves to the best of their ability.
The coach encouraged all the swimmers to continue to work hard because hard work would be worth it in the end.
